Manchester United have reached an agreement with PSG to sign midfielder Manuel Ugarte for an initial fee of £42.2 million, which could rise to £50.7 million with performance-related add-ons. Ugarte, who was United’s top midfield target this transfer window, is expected to arrive in the UK on Tuesday for a medical and to finalize personal terms. The deal was made possible after United created space in their squad by selling Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley.
PSG initially wanted to recoup the £51.1 million they paid Sporting Lisbon for Ugarte last summer, but the clubs compromised to complete the transfer. Ugarte led Ligue 1 in tackles last season, even though he only started 21 games. He was left out of PSG’s squad for their opening match of the season against Le Havre, which they won 4-1.
Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is close to leaving Manchester United, with a move to Napoli nearly finalized for £25.4 million. Although United would prefer to keep McTominay, the player is eager for regular first-team football, and the sale represents a good financial gain for the club. McTominay has already agreed on personal terms with Napoli and is expected to travel to Italy for a medical once his exit terms from United are finalized.
