Thomas Tuchel is in advanced negotiations to become the next permanent England manager to replacement to Gareth Southgate. Tuchel has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season. His former team Bayern Munich won Bundesliga title 2022-23 season but finished 18 points behind Bayer Leverkusen last season.

The German, who previously worked in England with premier league club, Chelsea, has been planning for his return to the dugout and has been heavily linked with the Three Lions post. England are still looking to confirm their permanent replacement to Gareth Southgate who left after his side’s heartbreaking Euro 2024 final defeat in July.

Under 21-boss Lee Carsley has been placed as an interim coach for England’s six games in the Nations League but his chances of landing the job on a full-time basis took a hit after a shock 2-1 defeat against Greece on Thursday.

England bounced back with a 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday but the former Everton midfielder remained coy when asked if he wanted the role on a full-time basis. The potential news could come as a blow to Manchester United who were considering the German as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag should they decide to sack the under-fire Dutchman.

Former Republic of Ireland international Carsley had been seen as the favourite to take the role on a full-time basis after impressive performances last month but appeared to distance himself from the job after England’s defeat to Greece at Wembley.
