Mikel Arteta’s side, runners-up to Manchester City in the previous two campaigns, are behind leaders Liverpool by seven points after 10 games following their 1-0 loss at Newcastle United on Saturday.
The only other clubs to recover a similarly sizable gap as the one Arsenal must now overcome were Manchester United in 2002-03 and Manchester City in both 2013-14 and 2020-21, with each of those sides trailing by six points after 10 games.
Arsenal now have three premier league games without a single win having lost against Bournemouth, draw with Liverpool and Lost 1-0 to Newcastle, and having lost almost half points as they did in the entirety of the last season. Arsenal have now dropped to position four in premier league table Nottingham Forest occupying the third position with 19 points.
It seems as though Mikel Arteta’s gameplan has been pared back to keeping a clean sheet and scoring with a moment of quality. Instead, Newcastle did that, Alexander Isak’s early goal stemming from Anthony Gordon’s pinpoint cross. Just as they had done at Bournemouth, Arsenal failed to score.
