Newcastle United has turned down an offer from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce to sign defender Lloyd Kelly.

Fenerbahce had suggested both a permanent deal and a loan, but Newcastle rejected both options because the cash offer was too low compared to what they value Kelly at.

Kelly, 26, joined Newcastle in the summer after leaving Bournemouth on a free transfer. However, he has struggled to secure a spot in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup. His chances of playing have dropped even further since Sven Botman returned from injury last week.

Fenerbahce’s vice-president, Acun Ilıcalı, confirmed their interest in Kelly, saying, “If we can agree, we will sign this player.” The Turkish club might come back with a better offer to try and complete the deal.
