Liverpool hasn’t made any signings yet this summer. New manager Arne Slot wants to bring in a new defensive midfielder. One of their targets is Martin Zubimendi, a Spanish international who played in the Euro 2024 final.
Zubimendi has a £51 million release clause and is also being considered by Manchester United and Arsenal. He’s been with Real Sociedad since 2011, scoring four goals in 31 appearances last season and helping the team finish sixth in LaLiga. Sociedad also reached the last 16 of the Champions League before losing to Paris Saint-Germain.
If Liverpool signs Zubimendi, it would be the first big move for their new sporting director, Richard Hughes. Hughes mentioned that July would be quiet due to international tournaments, but transfer activity would pick up in August.
