Tottenham is set to pay an upfront fee of £55 million for Dominic Solanke, with an additional £10 million potentially earned through performance-related bonuses. Solanke, who netted 19 goals in the Premier League for Bournemouth last season, was notably absent from England’s Euro 2024 squad. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has identified the need for a new centre forward to bolster his squad.

If the deal goes through, Liverpool could benefit from a £10 million windfall due to a sell-on clause, as Solanke previously played 27 times for the Reds during the 2017/18 season. Solanke missed Bournemouth’s recent friendly against Rayo Vallecano due to a foot injury.

Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, has praised Solanke’s importance to the team, highlighting not only his goal-scoring but also his contributions to the team’s build-up play and pressing. Despite speculation, Iraola remains optimistic about keeping Solanke, emphasizing his value and professionalism.

Postecoglou has stressed the need for a striker who fits his tactical requirements and physical demands, particularly since the team lacks depth in this position. With Tottenham’s involvement in European competitions and their ambitions for a strong league finish, a high-caliber striker like Solanke is seen as a crucial addition.

Solanke’s ability to finish chances, especially with Tottenham ranking fourth in the Premier League for crosses per game, makes him a potentially pivotal figure. His recent form, hitting 19 goals and excelling in the box, aligns well with Tottenham’s attacking needs.
