Brentford striker Ivan Toney has received interest from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, which already has stars like Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy, and Roberto Firmino. Although an offer has been made, Brentford hasn’t accepted it yet, and nothing is finalized. Toney was left out of Brentford’s squad for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace because of this interest and his lack of a full pre-season, despite only playing 42 minutes at Euro 2024. Brentford still managed to win 2-1 without him, thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank explained that Toney was left out of the squad due to the ongoing transfer interest. Frank acknowledged Toney’s importance to the team but pointed out that they had shown last year they could cope without him. When asked if this marks the end of Toney’s time at Brentford, Frank said it’s uncertain, as nothing is finalized yet.
Toney has one year left on his contract, so this might be Brentford’s last chance to get a transfer fee for him. There was previous interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, but those moves didn’t happen. Toney may explore his options, including a move to Saudi Arabia, or he could stay and leave as a free agent next year, but he likely wants to make a decision soon.
