Newcastle United has started discussions with Bayer Leverkusen to sign defender Edmond Tapsoba. The club made an approach for the 25-year-old Burkina Faso international within the last 24 hours. Along with Tapsoba, Newcastle has also asked about Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who is familiar to their sporting director Paul Mitchell from their time at Monaco.

Both Tapsoba and Disasi would be cheaper options than Marc Guehi, allowing Newcastle to save money for potential signings in attacking positions. Although Newcastle is still interested in Guehi, they are now considering other options. The club made a fourth offer worth up to £65 million for the Crystal Palace captain but is currently facing a standoff with Palace, who are likely to sell Joachim Andersen to Fulham.

As a result, Newcastle is exploring alternatives to strengthen their defense while managing their budget wisely. The pursuit of Guehi remains ongoing, but the Magpies are preparing for the possibility of signing other players instead. This approach allows them to potentially secure quality defenders like Tapsoba or Disasi without overspending. The club’s focus is on balancing their spending while ensuring they have enough resources for other key positions on the field.
