Arsenal is close to signing Martin Zubimendi, a midfielder from Real Sociedad who was previously a target for Liverpool.
Liverpool had agreed on a deal to sign Zubimendi during the summer, but he chose to stay in Spain instead. Liverpool manager Arne Slot revealed that sporting director Richard Hughes worked hard to make the transfer happen.
“It’s not easy to find players who can improve the team,” Slot said in August after Zubimendi turned down Liverpool’s offer. “Zubimendi was one of those players, but he decided not to join us. Richard tried everything to bring him in, but if a player doesn’t want to come, there’s nothing more we can do.”
