Aston Villa has been fined by UEFA for submitting their financial information late. The club, set to compete in this season’s Champions League, received a fine of 60,000 euros (£50,640) from UEFA’s financial body.
Similarly, French club Marseille was fined 20,000 euros for the same reason. These fines are part of UEFA’s new financial sustainability rules that were introduced last season.
Under these rules, clubs’ spending on their squads can’t exceed 90% of their revenue. This limit will drop to 80% for the current season, and further down to 70% in the following seasons. However, UEFA confirmed that no club went over the 90% limit last season.
