Reports suggest that Trent Alexander-Arnold could leave Liverpool for Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, and many Liverpool fans are not happy about it.
The 26-year-old right-back, whose contract expires in June, has been on Madrid’s radar for two years. The Spanish club has been pushing hard since January to convince him to join. While no deal has been signed yet, Liverpool is at risk of losing their vice-captain without receiving a transfer fee, which has angered fans.

Fans Blame Liverpool’s Owners
Many supporters are directing their frustration at Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG). They believe the club has mismanaged contracts, with key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also possibly leaving for free.
On social media, one fan wrote:
“This is embarrassing from Liverpool. Losing your vice-captain in his prime for nothing is a disaster. If Salah and Van Dijk leave too, it’s a joke.”

Another fan sarcastically commented:
“Trent leaving? One down, two more to go. FSG is running the club so well!”
Some believe FSG’s poor management is pushing the club towards a major crisis this summer.
Some Fans Are Ready to Move On
Not all Liverpool fans are upset. Some feel Alexander-Arnold’s best years are behind him and that Conor Bradley can take over at right-back.
One fan said:
“No player is bigger than Liverpool. Let him go. We’ll be fine with Bradley.”
Others doubt whether he will succeed at Real Madrid, pointing out that Gareth Bale and other foreign players have struggled at the Bernabéu.
“He’ll be washed out in two years. The fans in Madrid won’t treat him the same way Liverpool fans do,” one supporter claimed.
Alexander-Arnold’s Legacy at Liverpool
Despite the backlash, Alexander-Arnold has played a huge role in Liverpool’s success. Since joining the club’s academy at six years old, he has made 349 appearances, scored 22 goals, and provided 87 assists.
He has won several major trophies, including:
- Premier League (2019-20) – ending Liverpool’s 30-year wait
- Champions League (2018-19)
- FA Cup & League Cup (2021-22)
- PFA Young Player of the Year (2020)
In 2023, he was named vice-captain after Jordan Henderson left.
If he leaves for Real Madrid without Liverpool receiving any transfer fee, it will mark a major change for the club. As new manager Arne Slot prepares to take over from Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool faces an uncertain future.
For now, fans remain divided—some heartbroken over losing a club legend, others ready to move on. One thing is clear: if Alexander-Arnold joins Real Madrid, it will be one of Liverpool’s biggest transfer shocks in recent years.
