Victor Wanyama is looking forward to playing against his former Celtic teammate, Scott Brown, as he begins a new chapter with Dunfermline Athletic. The Kenyan midfielder recently joined the Scottish club after leaving CF Montreal, and his main goal is to help Dunfermline avoid relegation.
Dunfermline currently sits ninth in the 10-team Scottish Championship, which puts them in the relegation playoff zone. However, they are just two points behind Hamilton, the team in the last safe position.
Scott Brown, who played alongside Wanyama at Celtic between 2011 and 2013, is now the head coach of Ayr United. His team is performing well and is currently third in the league with 55 points. The two will face off when Dunfermline meets Ayr United on Saturday night.

Speaking at a press conference, Wanyama shared his excitement about playing against Brown.
“It feels like a fairytale. I played in midfield, our manager Neil Lennon played in midfield, and Scott Brown played in midfield. We even share the same birthday! Now, Neil and I are teaming up to face Scott, which is unbelievable,” Wanyama said.
Although he hasn’t personally told Brown about his move to Dunfermline, Wanyama believes his former teammate has likely seen the news. He also mentioned that he recently met Brown when he visited Celtic to watch a game.
“I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I’ll try to get in touch. It’s going to be exciting playing against him as a coach while I work with Neil Lennon to help Dunfermline,” he added.
Scott Brown Praises Wanyama
Scott Brown has always spoken highly of Wanyama. In a recent interview, he named the Kenyan as one of his best teammates during his time at Celtic. Brown joined Celtic in 2007, four years before Wanyama arrived in 2011. While Wanyama left for Southampton in 2013, Brown stayed at Celtic until 2021.
After leaving Celtic, Wanyama played for Southampton, then Tottenham Hotspur, before moving to MLS side CF Montreal. His contract with Montreal expired in January 2025, leading to his return to Scottish football with Dunfermline Athletic.
