Liverpool has agreed to sign Italy forward Federico Chiesa from Juventus for £12.5 million. The deal includes £10 million upfront and £2.5 million in performance-based add-ons. Chiesa, who played a key role in Italy’s Euro 2021 victory, expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool and thanked Juventus fans for their support. Barcelona was also interested in Chiesa, but financial constraints prevented them from making a move, while Saudi Arabia posed the biggest competition for Liverpool in securing his signature.

Chiesa, who joined Juventus permanently in 2022 after a two-year loan from Fiorentina, has made 98 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals in all competitions. Despite his talent, his time at Juventus has been mixed, partly due to an ACL injury in 2022 and not fully connecting with the coaching styles of Max Allegri and Thiago Motta. Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot, sees Chiesa as a versatile player who can play on either wing or as a second striker, although Chiesa has yet to fully develop his ability to fit seamlessly into a team dynamic.

Fans are disappointed to see Chiesa leave Juventus, as he was seen as a future star for the team. However, his struggles to adapt to Juventus’ tactical demands, combined with the club’s financial concerns, led to the decision to sell him. While Chiesa is eager for a fresh start at Liverpool, it remains uncertain whether he will become a regular starter under Arne Slot.
